Reach the Bridge - VOLUNTEER!

May 28, 2008

In case you don't already know, Reach the Bridge is just a month away on Sunday, June 29. Reach the Bridge (formerly Beat the Burnside) is a benefit for the American Lung Association of Oregon and is Portland's only reverse-timed race. Runners and walkers leave as early as they want, or as late as they dare, but their challenge is to reach the Burnside bridge before it goes up at 9am-SHARP! Starting at the World Forestry Center, the beautiful 8k course takes you through the paved roads of Forest Park, down a closed Burnside Street and over the Burnside Bridge to an awesome finish line festival. BUT! - All the fun won't happen without a great crew of volunteers.

Over 100 volunteers are needed to make Reach the Bridge a success. From cheering on participants to hanging banners, volunteers help with a variety of easy, yet important tasks. On the morning of the event, you'll get a free t-shirt, thorough training, and a strong cup of coffee to get you going. So, if you can't actually run the race, come be a part of the festivities and volunteer. And if you are going to try to reach the bridge, recruit some friends or family to be a volunteer and cheer you on along the way!
