Picking up the Pace

July 22, 2008

As you may know, I have it in my head that I am running the Portland Marathon in October. However, instead of having the goals of a) just finishing, and b) not coming in last place, like I did for my first marathon, I actually have a set time in mind I want to meet. Naturally it's a PR (which doesn't say much, as this is only my second marathon) but nonetheless, it means I am going to have to pick up the pace. This doesn't apply just to race day, but more importantly to my training. For this very reason, the importance of track workouts has finally been brought to my attention - better late than never, I say. Thankfully they have actually become one of my favorite training days. However, since these workouts are still a little new to me, this Runner's World article has done a great job of explaining how to best utilize them.
