Beating the Boredom

If you're planning on running the Portland Marathon in October, you're probably a little over half way into your training. And if you're like me and training by yourself, you might be starting to get a little bored. I've found the motivation needed to fit in all those workout sessions is slowly starting to dwindle. No need to worry, as there are a variety of running groups in town to hook up with for some weekly runs. Not only will you meet some new runners, but I've also found that I tend to work a little bit harder when running with others... you don't want to be the one in last, do you?

  • Portland Marathon Clinic: Weekend run longs with pace setters. See where you are at with your goal pace.
  • Team Red Lizard: Weekly runs including track workouts, hills, and a pub run!
  • Nike Running Club: Meets Mondays and Fridays at 5:45 pm at Niketown. Choose from 3, 5, or 7 mile routes with some post run refreshments.

  • ORRC: Tuesday night training runs with a variety of workouts.

Tillamook Burn Trail Run | Aug 17 - Pacific City, OR

Are you ready for one epic adventure? The Tillamook Burn is the final event in the XTERRA Oregon Trail Running Series and may be one of the best trail courses XTERRA has offered in fifteen years. The entire course is set on private property on Wood Fire Farms, about ten miles outside of Pacific City, and is not for the faint of heart. There are some wide open skid roads for passing (or being passed) and some adventurous single track sections. There are some flat spots and there are some eye-watering hills. Combine that with some rivers, some mud, and some man-made creations and you've got one amazing course. Aide will be provided near the middle of the six mile course, but if you need more, bring it your self!

As for the after party, there will be entertainment and a huge BBQ right on the grounds. Camping is available and is FREE for all participants. If you are camping, there will be one big bonfire to party by, as there are no fires allowed at individual campsites. Swimming and fishing are also available in the two rivers on the property. All in all, this promises to be one awesome event. See the website for more details.

    First Thursday Urban Adventure Runs

If First Thursday gallery walks aren't quite your style, come be a part of this alternative "walk" (ok, run). Fit Right NW is hosting it's very own First Thursday Run and Urban Scavenger Hunt at its NW 23rd location. The rules are simple: Receive your first checkpoint location at the start. Try to hit as many checkpoints as you can, but remember that the raffle drawing starts at 7pm whether you are there or not. Even if you don't end up winning any prizes, there is free food and beer for all, which lets face it, is almost as good as winning that new pair of Brooks...sort of.
