Food for Thought
September 22, 2008
With just two weeks to go until the Portland Marathon, you, like myself, are in your tapering phase. Hopefully you've survived your training and instead of never wanting to put on your running shoes again are still excited about the running the race! Now it's time to relax a little and let your muscles recover before the big day. Aside from tapering, though, there are some other ways to get your body ready for race day, starting with what you're eating. Runner's World has compiled a solid list of nutritional do's and don'ts in this very helpful article. Some are common sense reminders (like drinking water consistently throughout the week before the race and not chugging gallons the day before) and others might be a little new (like eating extra protein in the early stages of tapering to help the recovery of muscle tissue damaged from intense training).
